Rip Curl Team Descend On Bristol To Surf The Wave

This summer, the Rip Curl International team descended on Bristol, UK, to experience The Wave – a unique inland surfing destination. They were met with sun, 21-degree water, and top-quality waves on tap!

From 14th-17th June, Rip Curl’s International team riders travelled from Bordeaux, France, to Bristol to spend three days with The Wave as their training ground. The crew included some of Europe’s most talented riders, such as Victoria Vergara from France and young talent, Lukas Skinner from the UK.

Arriving to sunshine and the sound of waves, the crew checked in to The Camp at The Wave, to prepare for a few days of warm waves and good vibes. After surfing many of The Wave’s surf settings, the crew refueled on pizzas and burritos from The Wave’s food trucks, before heading back to The Camp to rest ahead of the next day.

On Day 2, as an afternoon break from catching waves, the team headed into Bristol to explore the cultural city, visiting Clifton Suspension Bridge, checking out some of Banksy’s artwork and kicking back for lunch on the harbourside. They then headed back to The Wave for an evening of big wave sessions, before an amazing sunset topped off an incredible trip.

Nick Rees, Surf Commercial Manager at The Wave said:

“We have worked with Rip Curl as one of our partners from the very beginning, when we opened our doors in 2019. Two years of Covid restrictions have made trips from overseas difficult and it was absolutely brilliant to finally welcome the Rip Curl riders in again for a much overdue visit. It was great to see them ripping on our waves, enjoying our clubhouse and wider site, staying in our on-site camp and exploring Bristol city. From the non-stop smiles it definitely seemed that the experience was a hit with everyone.”

Yann Martin, Team Manager at Rip Curl Europe, said:

“It’s easy to jump on plane and get to The Wave. We had such a fun few days and it was great for the team to experience the facility and surf different type of waves. The Wave is a brilliant training ground to improve surfing, work on technical details and repetition. We all came back exhausted but smiling, and we’re already looking at everyone’s calendars to organise another camp very soon.”

Victoria Vergara, Rip Curl Europe Team Rider, said:

“I was very impressed by The Wave. I got to enjoy a perfect surf on the left for an hour – I've never caught so many waves in my life! The trip was non-stop and I was surfed out at the end of the day. It’s a very progressive wave, fun to practice on and repeat the movement back-to-back for a couple of sessions. I’m already looking forward to the next mission at The Wave!”
