Gold Coast’s Kobie Enright and Lennox Head local Mikey McDonagh secured wildcards into the famous Rip Curl Pro today, as they surfed their way through the Trials in solid surf at Bells Beach. Both key members of Rip Curl&rsqrsquo;s “next generation” of competitive surfers, the two battled it out against domestic and international talent to take the highly sought opportunity.
“I’m so stoked that we ran in solid waves today,” Kobie mentioned post-heat. “It gave us all a chance to have a shot at winning the wildcard. As for actually winning, I am absolutely over the moon! This will be my first World Tour event and I am lost for words I am so excited... and nervous!”
Kobie put in solid display all day to be Taina Izquierdo (Bali, Indonesia) and then Kirra Belle Olsson (Avoca, NSW) in consecutive heats to claim the title,and secure her a wildcard into her first WSL WCT event.

On the men’s side, Mikey McDonagh (Lennox Head, NSW), had to fight off Rip Curl teammates Yuji Nishi (Osaka, Japan), Ketut Agus (Bali, Indonesia) and local surfer Xavier Huxtable (Torquay, Victoria).
“Once I made the final, all I wanted was to do my best,” said an elated Mikey at the end of the Final heat. “Im speechless. I have always dreamed of competing in a WCT event, and now I have got my chance. I was crook last night and thought my day was done, but the chance to compete on the world stage spurred me on to try my best.”
Kobie and Mikey will be joining the rest of the CT competitors on the world stage at the 2018 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, starting on Wednesday, 28th March.
