Attention all Euro Groms! In true 2020 fashion, this year’s qualifying series have gone digital, but with a real final in real waves at The Wave in Bristol, UK! Rip Curl has decided to run the Rip Curl GromSearch 2020 no matter what! This season, all the participants will enter by summiting the videos of their 2 best waves, starting august 21th and closing on September 15th by clicking on this link. Rip Curl is partnering with the best European judges and they are already getting ready for your best moves and style.

One boy and one girl under 16 years old from the following countries, UK, Portugal, France and Spain, and “Other Euro Countries” will win their ticket to the Euro Final at The Wave in Bristol. This will be the first European Grom event in a wave pool ever - an historic final, which you have a chance to be a part of!

Rip Curl will also award 4 wildcards for 2 boys and 2 girls in the categories “Deepest Barrel” presented by SMITH and “Biggest Air” presented by FCS! On top of that, the wildcard winners will have the opportunity to sign a one year deal with Smith and FCS.

The European Final at The Wave will take place on October 2nd 2020* where the 14 qualified Groms will battle to earn 2 tickets to the International final at Bells Beach in April 2021*.

The Wave is an inland surf destination powered by Wavegarden Cove technology, which can roll a fantastic variety of waves. It is an amazing opportunity to show your best tricks and win the 2020 Euro Rip Curl GromSearch!

About the GromSearch:

Created in Torquay, Australia, in 1999, the Rip Curl GromSearch is a competition exclusively for young surfers under the age of 16 with its own unique character. It is held in various regions of the world at the same time: Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, South Africa, New Zealand, USA and Europe, leading to an international final which traditionally takes place “Somewhere” in spring. The Rip Curl GromSearch is a real hotbed of young talent, having uncovered future World Champions such as Stéphanie Gilmore, the Brazilian prodigy and WSL World Champion Gabriel Medina, and many others.

About The Wave:

The Wave is creating inland surfing destinations that will bring the joy of surfing to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Its first site is in Bristol, UK.

*Rip Curl reserves the right to cancel the Rip Curl GromSearch European Final and International Final if deemed unsafe for its competitors. If for safety reasons du to covid-19 Rip Curl cannot run the European Final, the winner will be chosen according to its best recording waves.

Rip Curl Gromsearch 2020

Qualifiers to European Final at the WAVE, Bristol, UK

Regions: France, Spain, Portugal, UK and others European countries
Divisions: Boy's 16 & Under - Girl’s 16 & Under
How it Works:
This is the main way to qualify to the European final 2020 at the Wave, Bristol Choose your country, division, and register (it's free).Enter two separate single rides by video footage (based on rules listed below) prior to entry deadline September15th. (Ensure each wave is a separate clip, each athlete will need to enter under their own profile/login). Rip Curl Gromsearch European Final Qualifiers will be announced September 18th via Instagram @ripcurl_europe and Facebook

Entry Rules

- Cost: Free to enter
- Regions: You can only enter one region, both video clips must be filmed from the 1st of January 2020.
- Division: One open division 16 & under Boy’s and 16 & under Girl’s (D.O.B as of January 1st, 2020 The Groms must be born after January the 1st of 2004).
- Video Clips: Performance surfing only, each clip must be entered separately, no music, and regular motion (no slow motion). Please aim to enter wave from take off until wave is fully complete.
- Labeling Your Entry: You must title each ride with surfer’s name, wave location/region, and the date wave was surfed.
- Swapping Entries: You may swap out a wave for a new wave by deleting an entry to repopulate with a new entry prior to deadline the 15th of September 2020.
- Waves: You may submit two rights, two lefts, or a combination of one right and one left.
- Wave Pools: Will not be permitted. Ocean surfing ONLY allowed for submission.
-Wave Assist: Tow-in's, Tow-at's, Step-Offs, or any type of PWC assist will not be permitted for entry.
- Competition Clips: Clips entered from previously surfed competitions from 2020 will be accepted. - Video Quality: Any camera quality is allowed; home video camcorder, iPhone, Surfline Camera Rewind, etc. However, clear quality is preferred
- Video Clip Timeframe: Must be filmed anytime from Jan 1st, 2020 to September 15th, 2020.
- Video Clip Deadline: Must be submitted on or before September 15th 11:59pm (GMT time)
- Judges: Each wave reviewed and judged on 0.1-10 point system based on WSL Short Board judging criteria. Your combined score will be your 'Heat Score out of maximum 20 points.

Contestants authorize in advance and without any restriction or reserve the organizer to use free of rights their names, their images and their photos for a commercial or a public relation purpose, without conferring to them any payment, right or advantage for any title. Notably, the winners expressly grant to Rip Curl the right to publish their videos on Facebook & Instagram.

Entering the contest and the vote implies the contestant’s knowledge and acceptance of the Internet's characteristics and limitations, particularly with regard to technical performance, response times when checking, querying or transferring data, the risks of interruption, connection-related risks, the lack of protection against possible diversion of certain data and risks of contamination by any viruses in circulation on the Internet. How it Works:
By uploading your single Deepest Barrel you can also have the chance to qualify to the European final. Choose your country, division, and register (it's free). Enter your biggest barrel by video footage (based on rules listed below) prior to entry deadline September15th. (Ensure each wave is a separate clip, each athlete will need to enter under their own profile/login). Rip Curl Gromsearch European Final Qualifiers will be announced September 18th via Instagram @ripcurl_europe and Facebook. With the Wildcard, the winner will also win a one year deal with Smith.
