Matt McGillivray

Born: Durban, South Africa
DOB: March 26, 1997
Resides: North Shelly, NSW
Training Ground: Jeffreys Bay
Height: 5’11” (180cm)
Weight: Weight: 160lbs
Inspirations: Jordy Smith
Biggest Achievements in surfing: Winning the Seat Netanya Pro in Israel in 2018. In 2019, finishing third place in the Hawaiian Pro, as well as two 5th place finishes in both QS10000's in Europe.
Goals: I enjoy setting little surfing goals for myself. I want to be happy with the surfing I'm doing first, and the results are kind of a secondary process to that. But my main focus has always been to qualify for the Championship Tour. And then once that is achieved my next goal would be to progress towards the top 10.
Born in Durban, South Africa, Matt McGillivray was destined to be in the water. Growing up in a surf lifesaving family he spent hours in the ocean every day and learnt quickly. At nine years old, he followed in the footsteps of his older brothers and began surfing. For his tenth birthday, his dad drove him out to Jeffrey’s Bay where he caught two waves – and the rest, as they say, is history. By his early teens Matt was entering contests around the world and had set his sights on the World Tour.

In 2019, with signature power turns and consistent results, Matt finally reached his goal. In 2020 he will join the ranks of the elite on the WSL World Championship Tour.
