Matt Wilkinson - In it to win it.
3 October 2016
Matt Wilkinson took the surfing world by surprise at the start of this year, when he hit the water running and won back-to-back events, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.
He enlisted the help of surfing’s super-coach Glenn “Micro” Hall, buckled down on his diet and exercise regime, and showed his competitors that he’s in it to win it.
Since then we’ve witnessed the results of his hard work – from his current world number three position to his perfected signature backhand snap – but, what we haven’t seen are the hours of hard work and dedication he’s put in to reach the level of an elite athlete.
Recently, Matt kicked it up yet another gear and enlisted the help of friend and Cronulla Sharks premiership player Chris Heighington. Chris put Wilko through the ringer, pushing him to his physical and mental limit, preparing him to move into the pointy end of the season – where one mistake might cost a world title.
So contrary to common belief, it’s not all babes and beers when you’re a pro surfer. Watch what it truly takes to compete at the top level, day in, day out.
Best of luck in Europe and Hawaii, Wilko!
