INTERVIEW

How do you become a surfer growing up in England?
Like any other coast line in the world, you deal with the conditions you have and have as much fun as possible in it. For sure it's harder than most places, but it makes it more challenging and i like that.

What about the waves in your area?
My local beach has fun smashable waves, it's fickle at times. But when it's on, it's my favorite spot in the world, partly because it's my home and I know everyone there, I can take as many waves as I like. I'm sure everyone feels the same about there home break.

Could you possibly live somewhere else than Corwall?
Yeah, I think I could live in south west France, Australia, Hawaii. But I would always have to go back to my real home every now and then, as it is a very special, beautiful place and all my friends, family are there.

What's your plans for the next 5 years?
I'm going to give the WQS my best shot, and try and qualify, it's a dream for me. I have got this far, I have to keep on chasing it. Unless i'm not having a good time, for me life is about being happy, and if I become unhappy doing what I love the most, I will have to try a new route. My ultimate goal is to qualify for the wct. But I also want to visit and surf in as many surf destinations as I possibly can. I want to discover the whole world. My friend matt is sailing around the world soon. I want to find a new wave somewhere with him, that would be cool, and give it a name.

What's a good surfer to you?
A good surfer is someone with an amazing style, someone that has every trick down in the book, and more. Someone that makes it look easy, fun, and watching them makes you want to go in and rip it up yourself. I personnaly have to work on not letting other competitors get into my head and mess with my confidence, my mental side lets me down sometimes, but as I get older I'm defiantly learning to block all of that crap out of my mind, through experience.

What gear do you always bring with you on a surftrip?
I take as many boards as possible. If i'm going to somewhere cold I will take my H-bomb. if i'm going somewhere hot I take sun block. And I would want Rip Curl to bring out a breathing apparatus, so I don't have to worry about drowning in big waves.

Your dream session?
Pipeline, Backdoor, with noone out. Just me and my amigos.
