In 2010 the Rip Curl Gromsearch is growing with 9 European stops. The contest will take place from May to October 2010 in 5 different countries (Ireland, UK, France, Spain, Portugal) and will be concluded with the Great final during the WCT Rip Curl Pro in Peniche (Portugal).
The concept :
The Rip Curl Gromsearch Series was created in 1999 at Torquay in Australia as a competition for young surfers under 16 years of age. The competitions are held simultaneously in different parts of the world : Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, South Africa, New Zealand, USA ,Europe and lead to an international final which traditionally takes place during the mythical Rip Curl Pro Bell’s Beach in Australia
Past GromSearch winners include Stephanie Gilmore (3 times ASP World Champion, actually Women’s World #1 Champion) , Jordy Smith, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Alana Blanchard, …So whoever grabs the titles will be joining a pretty illustrious list..
Classes :
Rip Curl GromSearch is open for both girls and boys in 6 classes :
- Less than 12 years (born after 01/01/98) Boys & Girls
- Less than 14 years (born between 01/01/95 and 31/12/97) Boys & Girls
- Less than 16 years (born between 01/01/94 and 31/12/95) Boys & Girls ( the only division to participate to the European final)

European Final (less than 16 years classes only) : opening the Rip Curl Pro at Peniche (Portugal) 5 and 6 October 2010
The two first riders of the under 16 category (boys 1st and 2nd, girls 1st and second) will be qualified for the European Final. (accommodation and transport will be taken in charge for the winners)
The European champions (and accompanying adult) will join winners Rip Curl GromSearch series from all around the world at the Rip Curl Pro WCT at Bell’s Beach over Easter 2011.
